Identifying BMW Catalytic Converters for Scrap

How to Identify and Sell BMW Catalytic Converters with RRCats

BMW Logo

BMW catalytic converters are often shaped differently from other OEM cats, and typically include a unique serial number starting with “7” or “1”. In this guide, you’ll learn how to identify BMW converters, find stamped serial numbers, and request an accurate quote from our experienced team at RRCats.

Look For The BMW Logo

When manufacturing their catalytic converters, BMW does a great job with their logo stamped on the unit for easy identification, as shown below. They will almost always be accompanied by a serial number that is very easy to read. If you’re unsure, you can always send pictures to our team to help get you a price quote.

BMW cats are usually rectangular or foil-style units, and knowing what markings to look for can help you get paid faster. Scroll down for real photo examples and video ID tips.

Trouble Finding Serial Numbers on BMW Converter?

If you are having trouble finding the serial number on the unit, grab a piece of steel wool and start rubbing away the corrosion. Depending on where you live, some units have extra corrosion from wear and tear if you have salt on the roads during the winter.

BMW Catalytic Converter Serial Numbers

With a rich vehicle creation history, BMW catalytic converters are all different but have some standard serial numbers. Below are some of the typical serial numbers:

  • 1728174
  • 7505784
  • 7594786
  • 7540191
  • 840792

Serial Numbers Make or Break Your Pricing

Our team at RRCats is appropriately trained to identify the type of BMW converter you have and the proper scrap price based on the recovery rate of PGMs found inside. Our team can grade around 90% of BMW catalytic converters with the serial numbers found on the units. So it’s essential to find the numbers stamped on your unit and send us pictures for an accurate price quote.
