Identifying Chevrolet Catalytic Converters for Scrap
How to Identify and Sell Chevy Catalytic Converters with RRCats
If you’re scrapping a Chevrolet catalytic converter, you’ll want to identify the correct serial numbers to ensure you get the best possible quote. This page explains how to locate GM/Chevy serial codes, what numbers to look for, and how to get a quote from our team at RRCats.
How To Find Serial Numbers
As some of the most common catalytic converters on the market, all GM brands/makes have similar serial number patterns. These patterns could have different starting serial numbers but generally have between 7 and 10 digits. These serial numbers are in one of two places on the cats about 90% of the time, making them uniform to look for.
The first place is on one of the corners of the catalytic converters and will always be in that 7-10 digit form. Sometimes, another stamped code could be on the opposite corner, but that code can be ignored.
The second place is generally in the cat’s middle and is stamped into the metal shield.
What Serial Numbers on Chevy Cats Look Like
Most OEM Chevy converters will start with number sequences :
- 126—–
- 127—–
- 253—–
- 255—–
You’ll often find these stamped on the shield, near the edge, or even hidden underneath the converter body.
