Identifying General Motors (GM) Catalytic Converters for Scrap
How to Identify and Sell GM Catalytic Converters with RRCats
General Motors (GM) catalytic converters come in many shapes and styles, and they’re often found in pairs on trucks or SUVs. This guide will help you identify GM converters, locate the correct serial numbers, and request a custom quote from our team at RRCats.
Tips Regarding GM Catalytic Converters
General Motors owns and operates so many brands that it leaves a lot of catalytic converter information out there. One of the best things that GM has done is to put serial numbers on about 90% of its catalytic converter units. This has allowed the scrap side to be done more quickly and accurately than other makes.
Many GM cars have at least one catalytic converter, but most have at least 2-4. This helps mitigate the emissions found in cars and is also cleaner for the environment.
When looking for the serial codes on GM vehicles, they are generally on one of the corners of the catalytic converter or stamped/etched on the main shield. GM is not known for having secondary shields, so we suggest getting some steel wool out to look for those numbers.
Identifying Serial Numbers
GM & Chevy serial numbers typically begin with sequences like 126, 127, 253, and 255. Some are hidden behind shields or stamped along the casing. Scroll below for photos and video tips to get the best possible quote.
