It’s illegal to sell or buy converter dust or by-products that contain platinum, palladium, or rhodium.

4. Dealer Recordkeeping Required

Dealers must maintain transaction records, including seller identity, converter details, and payment info, available to law enforcement upon request.

5. Law Extended Through 2028

These rules remain in effect until at least July 1, 2028, under the updated Scrap Metal Theft Reduction Act.
