Nevada Catalytic Converter Laws

Selling Catalytic Converters in Nevada

If you’re in Nevada and have a catalytic converter to sell, it’s important to know the laws. Nevada has enacted stricter regulations to tackle converter theft — but if you follow the rules, legal sales are still possible.

What the Nevada Law Says

Nevada law (see Nevada Senate Bill 243 & Nevada Revised Statutes §205.27417) sets a number of requirements including:

  • Buyers can only purchase a used catalytic converter from a licensed auto‑wrecker, licensed scrap metal processor, or a seller who holds clear proof of lawful ownership.
  • Payment for a detached catalytic converter must be by check or electronic transfer, not cash.
  • Records of each transaction must include seller ID, vehicle info, converter description, and must be retained for at least 2 years and made available for inspection by law enforcement.

Can You Still Sell Your Converter?

Yes! If you legally own your catalytic converter and can provide the proper documentation, you can still sell it — even with Nevada’s stricter laws in place.

RRCats works with individuals and businesses in Nevada, helping you navigate the paperwork and compliance so you can sell your converter safely.

Selling to RRCats from Nevada

Here’s how the process works when you sell your catalytic converter to RRCats:

  • Text a clear photo of your converter and its serial number for a free quote
  • Ship it using your own box or request our pre‑labeled shipping kit
  • Get paid quickly via check, direct deposit, or other secure methods — we handle the compliance so you don’t have to worry

Because RRCats is based in New Jersey, you can legally ship your converter out‑of‑state and avoid many Nevada‑dealer‐specific transaction restrictions. That means you can get maximum value with minimum hassle.
